Smooth changes from F# minor
Jumping from one root position chord to the next moves the whole hand. The right inversion keeps shared notes still and moves the others the shortest way. Below are the chords built on the 4th and 5th notes of F# minor's own key: Bm and C#.
From F#m to Bm, play Bm in 2nd inversion (F♯–B–D): F♯ stays, A moves up two half steps to B and C♯ moves up a half step to D.
From F#m to C#, play C# in 1st inversion (E♯–G♯–C♯): F♯ moves down a half step to E♯ (the white key usually called F), A moves down a half step to G♯ and C♯ stays.

Practice notes for F# minor
F♯ minor is black, white, black: F♯ and C♯ are black keys, and A is the white key between them. It is the same shape as C♯ minor and G♯ minor, and the relative minor of A major.
Where it goes wrong. The thumb on the black F♯ and the little finger on the black C♯ pull the hand forward, while the middle finger has to reach back to the white A. If the hand stays at the front of the keys, the outer fingers slip. Sit the hand forward and let the middle finger play the far end of the A key.
How to practice it. F♯ is the first black key of the group of three. Play the chord, lift, and find F♯ again by touch. Then practice the change to B minor in 2nd inversion (F♯–B–D): the thumb stays on F♯ and the other two fingers come down onto white keys.
What to listen for. Raise the A to A♯ and you have F♯ major, all black keys. The difference is one half step, and hearing it is the point of the exercise.
What to learn next. B minor and C♯ major, the iv and V chords in F♯ minor, and A major, its relative major.
